Conical papers

Most people in the MCL use Cafec papers as they are widely accepted as being less prone to clogging compared to Hario Papers as well as being more easily available. (In regard to knowing which kind of paper you’re getting). Cafec papers that perform differently are also labeled as such in contrast to the harios papers mess of unlabeled variations. As some users have pointed out if you don’t want to get deep into the difference between the filter Papers you should just get the Abaca Reds or the T-90 papers as they are the most commonly used fast paper filters.

T-92/Light-Roast/TH-1

The T-92 filters are part of cafecs roast level line of filters and they are designed for light roasted coffee.

Use cases and description

Even though these are marketed towards light roasted coffees by cafec they are not widely used in the MCL community as they tend to be slow and often clog. On the other hand, these are filtering more coffee particles which result in a cleaner cup. These paper filters give you a tbt of around 5 to sometimes even 10 minutes as they have a slow flow rate of water through the filter.

Available sizes

The filters are available in two sizes, the 2-4 cups that is equivalent to V60-02 and the 1 cup that is equivalent to V60-01.

Buyers guide

These are available under different names but are all the same. The names they are available under are T-92, Light Roast or TH-1.

T-90/Medium-Dark-Roast/TH-3

These are -apart from the Abaca Reds- the most commonly used filter papers by MCL users. They offer a fast flowrate and are nearly uncloggable. These paper filters give you a tbt of around 1:30 to 5 minutes, which purely depends on the grind size you use.

Available sizes

The filters are available in two sizes, the 2-4 cups that is equivalent to V60-02 and the 1 cup that is equivalent to V60-01.

These are available under different names but are all the same. The names they are available under are T-90, Medium-Dark Roast or TH-3.

T-83/Dark-Roast/TH-2

According to cafec these papers are designed to give a fast flow similar to T-90 in the beginning while reducing flow to similar levels of the T-92 in the end by trapping more and more fines. In the MCL Community these tend not to be used at all. YMMV so please let us know in the paper filter thread if you have other experiences with this filter paper 😊
